Family access
Keep invitations private and treat relatives with care.
Birzeit Family Tree is an independent community family-history project. The map is publicly explorable. Historical names and details are shown using a conservative generation boundary; recent and unclassified people appear as unnamed nodes. Full recent details and contributions require approved membership. Keep sign-in links private, use your own account and do not impersonate someone else. The built-in sharing tool lets you review and share a limited branch image. Share only material you are entitled to share; membership does not grant unrestricted rights to publish other people’s material. We may moderate contributions, limit access or suspend accounts to protect the community.
Your contributions
You keep your rights. We may reuse, adapt, publish and redistribute what you contribute, without payment or further approval.
You keep whatever ownership and other rights you hold in the names, facts, text, photographs and other material you contribute. For contributions you submit after accepting these terms, you grant Birzeit Family Tree and its operators a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable permission to store, copy, edit, translate, combine, adapt, publish, display, distribute and otherwise reuse that material, in any medium and for any lawful purpose, including commercial purposes, without further approval or payment. This permission continues if you leave the site or request removal. It covers only rights you own or are authorized to grant; applicable law and other people’s rights still apply. Earlier archival material retains its existing rights. This permission does not cover your account email, sign-in credentials or private support correspondence.
Share responsibly
Only share material you have the right and consent to share. You are responsible for your submissions.
By contributing, you confirm that you own the relevant rights or have obtained all permissions needed to share the material and grant the permission above, including required consent from people represented in it. Do not submit confidential, unlawfully obtained, defamatory or infringing material, or expose living people’s sensitive information without permission. Be honest about uncertainty and correct mistakes when you discover them. Contributors are responsible for their submissions; a Steward’s review does not verify ownership, consent or every historical claim.
Privacy and records
Historical details and family connections are public. Recent details are for members, who can choose to share branch images. Your email is shared with verified members by default. You can opt out.
The public map keeps every person and family connection. The same conservative rule applies to all trees: names and available details appear above the three newest recorded generations in each connected tree, including older people with no recorded children. The youngest three generations and uncertain relationships remain unnamed. A public clan label may identify an otherwise unnamed tree, without revealing a personal name. Active Stewards have a public name, tree link and up to four recorded paternal generations in the community directory. Recorded births after 1930 additionally keep their generation, their parents’ generation and later generations private. Generational alignment is an approximate visibility rule, not proof of age or death. Members can deliberately share branch images showing names within three relationship steps of their linked person; the image omits more distant names, dates and places. Review images before sharing: recipients may save or forward them. Choosing a social link or copying an image link publishes that reviewed image and note at a public link for 90 days. Its creator can revoke the link; social-network caches and saved copies may remain. Saving an image or using the device image share menu does not upload it to our site. We keep family-history contributions, earlier revisions and review records to maintain the archive and resolve corrections. Account emails and session information support membership and sign-in and are stored separately from family-history exports. To help families reconnect, verified members can see your name, account email and linked tree position in Connect by default. Verification requires confirming an email and either Steward approval or a valid invitation. These details are never shown to public visitors or pending members. You can turn off email sharing in My profile at any time. Existing opt-outs are respected; addresses already saved by recipients cannot be recalled. These addresses are for personal family contact, not mailing lists or redistribution. Cloudflare provides hosting and email delivery. We do not use advertising or visitor-tracking analytics. Current member-only access is not a promise that contributions will never be republished under the permission above. Any reuse of personal information remains subject to applicable privacy law. We consider correction, privacy and removal requests, but retained backups and previously distributed copies may remain.
Accuracy and responsibility
Records can be incomplete or wrong. The service is provided as available; contributors remain responsible for material they should not have shared.
Family history is contributed by people and may be incomplete, disputed or incorrect. The site is provided as is and as available, without a guarantee of accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by law, Birzeit Family Tree, its operators and Stewards are not liable for user-submitted material, unauthorized submissions or losses arising from use of the site. You agree to cover reasonable claims, losses and costs caused by your breach of these terms or your submission of material you were not entitled to share. Nothing here excludes responsibility or rights that the law does not allow us to exclude.
Questions and concerns
Email info@birzeit.io about corrections, privacy, rights or disputes.
Contact info@birzeit.io with the relevant record or material, your connection to it and the requested correction or action. We may restrict or remove disputed content while a concern is reviewed. You accept these terms when joining. We may update them as the project evolves by publishing the revised terms here with an updated date. Continued use is subject to the current terms, to the extent permitted by law; routine updates do not require another acceptance.
